Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians is confident that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is still able to throw a deep ball. In the Panthers first game, Newton only threw one pass over 20 yards (it was 26 yards) and it has raised some eyebrows about if he is really fully healthy following shoulder surgery.

Arians was asked about Newton's deep ball and said he has no doubt he can throw it, otherwise he wouldn't be playing.

“I don't think there is any doubt about it, or he wouldn't be playing,” he said when asked if Newton could make a pass of more than 20 yards via David Newton of ESPN. “Yeah, he's got all his tools. He's ready to go.” And, Arians added, “I don't want to find out in a game” if he can.”

Newton and head coach Ron Rivera have both made it clear that Newton is fully healthy and can throw any pass he wants to.

Newton said against the Rams the biggest reason he didn't throw it deep was that the opportunities weren't there, and he didn't want to force anything.

“If it’s going to hinder us from winning, I don’t want to throw it. But if it’s going to make us win,” Newton said Tuesday before morphing into his impression of offensive coordinator Norv Turner via the Panthers team website, “‘Oh, baby,’ you better throw some doggone deep balls.”

The Buccaneers defense and secondary is suspect at best, so Newton should get plenty of chances to throw the deep ball when they square off in Week 2.
