The Carolina Panthers on Monday afternoon made another addition to their offense this offseason by signing former Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson to a one-year deal. This has brought an upgrade to the backfield with a potential replacement for the departure of longtime starter Jonathan Stewart after 10 seasons.

It has immediately put him in line to pair up alongside rising star running back Christian McCaffrey in the 2018 season. According to Joseph Person of The Charlotte Observer, Anderson voiced that he believes that the two can complement each well on the field.

“As far as ground and pound, the Keep Pounding slogan that Carolina likes to (use), the ground and pound game I think fits (me) well,” Anderson said Monday, shortly after signing a one-year deal with Carolina. “Breaking tackles and finding ways to use that to make long runs and bigger plays, also catching the ball out of the backfield, too.

“But having a guy like McCaffrey, who’s super shifty and also can do some of the same things, it can be a great complementary (relationship) with each other.”

The two hold different running styles with McCaffrey being the quicker speed between them while showing to be a huge impact player in the passing game out of the backfield after setting franchise rookie records in scrimmage yards (1,086) and receptions (80) last year. The 21-year-old was also a factor in the running game posting 435 yards in a secondary role to Stewart in the 2018 campaign.

Meanwhile, Anderson has proven that he can excel being used in the ground attack as he's coming off his first career 1,000 rushing yard campaign of his five-year career. He will likely assume that role in Carolina to help lead that effort alongside star quarterback Cam Newton.

There is plenty of potential in this pairing that could see them become an effective duo in the backfield that could help take the Panthers' offense to the next level.
