Many feel that Cam Newton has played his last down as quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. He has been sidelined with a foot injury since Week 3 and has not exactly played well over his last couple of injury-plagued seasons.

However, Newton doesn't seem to want to leave, as he expressed his love for Charlotte at a charity event on Monday:

“Charlotte is home,” said Newton, according to David Newton of ESPN.com. “Charlotte is a place I know people know me. They’re not just assuming. They know how I am. They know my energy. They know what I like and what I don’t like. For me to have that type of presence, it just reminds me that … it’s right.”

Newton, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by the Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. Since then, he has experienced a whole lot of ups and downs in Carolina, with his high-water mark coming during the 2015-16 campaign when he won the MVP award and led the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance.

But over the last four seasons, Newton has struggled, whether it be because of injuries or just poor performance in general.

As a result, many were calling for Kyle Allen to take his job even before he got hurt earlier this season. Now, that has come to fruition, although Allen has not exactly inspired much confidence in recent weeks.

Still, Newton sees a future for himself in Charlotte:

“We’re looking forward to countless more years in Charlotte to impact the community in ways outside of the game of football,” he said.

In the two games he played this year, Newton completed just 50 of his 89 throws for 572 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.
