Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers appeared to be on their way to another loss on Sunday afternoon against the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite being down 17 points in the fourth quarter, the Panthers never gave up. They not only made the game interesting, they were able to come all the way back to take a 21-17 victory.

Following the game, in a press conference shared by Pro Football Talk, Newton talked about the game and how much confidence it has given him and his team.

“I think every win is a statement win. But I think we were against the ropes to a degree. We didn’t have a good performance in the first half. We understand that, we know that, we know that can’t happen especially versus a good team like this. But moving forward, this is a confidence booster for us. Something that you can accelerate production offensively, defensively, as well as special teams. … Playing in a hostile environment. It felt like a lot of things were holding us back and then thrown at us, even pylons. But at the end of the day, we overcame that and we still kept pushing through it. You talk about good teams and the development DNA of good teams, winning on the road, winning close games is something that you have to do.”

Carolina made their first push with 10:41 left in the fourth quarter on a Curtis Samuel touchdown run. They proceeded to score again with 4:08 left in the game on an 18-yard touchdown strike from Newton to Devin Funchess. Greg Olsen then caught a one-yard touchdown pass with 1:22 left that gave the Panthers a win.

Newton finished the game with 269 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He completed 25 of his 39 pass attempts throughout the course of the game.

With their win over the Eagles, the Panthers now have a 4-2 record on the season. That has placed them second in the NFC South division behind the 5-1 New Orleans Saints.

Expect to see the Panthers use this game as a big momentum swing once again heading into next week's matchup at home against the Baltimore Ravens.
