Kelvin Benjamin used to be a favorite target of Cam Newton back when the two were still playing together for the Carolina Panthers. Those days are gone, and so is their friendship it seems after Benjamin recently criticized Newton’s ability to throw pinpoint passes.

If Benjamin wanted to start a feud with Newton, he’s successfully done so, but the quarterback has no plans of adding more fuel to the beef by talking about it, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

“There’s no need for me to talk about it. I’m in a lose-lose with that. But I wish him the best,” Newton said of Benjamin on Friday night.

Newton is a man full of pride, but his decision not to engage Benjamin in a war of words also shows how mature he’s become as an individual. Perhaps, he is only considerate of his team’s best interests, and having a sideshow conflict with Benjamin is not part of them. If anything, it seems that Newton had said to Benjamin everything he wanted to when he met with his former wide receiver face to face during the pregame of the match between the Panthers and the Buffalo Bills on Aug. 9.

The Panthers don’t need any distractions as they prepare for the 2018 NFL season after getting eliminated in the wild-card round in the last playoffs.

For Newton, he’d rather make noises with his play on the field.
