The Carolina Panthers lost their starting quarterback after just two games this year. Cam Newton has been sidelined with a foot injury for the last three weeks.

Now he could be extremely close to returning, though. Newton was at practice on Tuesday without his walking boot on.

So far, this injury hasn't spelled the end of Carolina. After starting the year 0-2, the Panthers have won three straight games.

Quarterback Kyle Allen has kept the team afloat as he's played very well (outside of fumbling issues) as he's filled in.

His time as a starter might be coming to an end very soon, though.

Although Newton struggled in the first two games of the year, it would make sense for the Panthers to hand the keys to the offense back over to the superstar once he returns.

Newton was playing through an injury in the first two weeks. Therefore, the argument could easily be made that his struggles were based more on injury issues than anything else.

For now, though, it's important to note that Newton isn't exactly back just yet. Sure, he's apparently out of his walking boot, and that's good news. However, that doesn't mean he's ready for action.

Newton still isn't participating in practice. That would indicate that he's not going to be playing this week. The good news for Carolina is that their Bye Week is set for Week 7, giving Newton an extra week to rest.

You still can't count him in for Week 8, though. Until Newton is practicing, everything else is just an update and a step in the right direction.
