The Carolina Panthers are coming off another encouraging season that saw them get back into the playoffs for the fourth time in the last five years. However, the team had shortcomings in the wild-card round of the playoffs falling just a bit short against the New Orleans Saints.

One of the areas on the roster that has been highly discussed this offseason for needed improvement is the wide receiver position. The Panthers wasted little time in adding more talent in the draft in the first round on Thursday with the selection of former Maryland wideout D.J. Moore to which star quarterback Cam Newton voiced his appreciation to head coach Ron Rivera about the move, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.

This move brings aboard a young promising talent that could step into the fray as a major asset in the passing game for Newton. Moore is an intriguing wide receiver prospect that is coming off a highly productive 2017 season with Maryland where he set the school record with 80 receptions for 1,033 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games played. This helped him earn First-Team All-Big Ten honors along with being selected as the Big Ten Receiver of the Year.

Moore has the potential to become a highly effective asset out of the slot due to his quick speed and big-play ability after the catch. There is some needed improvement in refining his route running, but he could step in immediately to be a primary option in the passing game alongside wide receivers Devin Funchess and Torrey Smith along with tight end Greg Olsen. There is also the presence of versatile running back Christian McCaffrey and the expected return of second-year wideout Curtis Samuel.

All of this should help set the table for the Panthers to have one of the league's most dynamic offenses that could lead to another trip to the playoffs and possibly further.
