The Carolina Panthers appear to be confident with Cam Newton as their quarterback in 2020 and his recovery from surgery seems to be the reason why. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Newton's foot surgery should eliminate future concerns.

Prior to the 2019 season, Newton was recovering from shoulder surgery he received on his throwing shoulder. After having months to recover, the veteran signal-caller was able to return to the field in the preseason.

However, Newton sustained a foot injury in his first preseason game since his shoulder surgery. Initially, the Panthers believed that Newton would be able to return at the beginning of the regular season with no issues.

But as Newton continued to play, he reaggravated the injury and was sidelined after Week 2. As a result, the former MVP was held out as a precaution for the rest of the season. When it was all said and done, Newton was diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury.

Compared to other foot ailments, a Lisfranc injury is known to linger without surgery. Therefore, Newton ultimately chose to undergo surgery on his foot in January. Of course, the Panthers want to make sure Newton is healthy before they make the decision on his status in 2020.

In light of that, Carolina seems to be content with where Newton currently is in his recovery process. As of now, the Panthers are expecting to see Newton return to football activities in March. Until he proves he can remain healthy, the Panthers are anxiously waiting to see what he looks like next season.
