This definitely makes sense. Newton doesn't even know the Panthers playbook quite yet and will likely take some time to learn it. P.J. Walker will be getting his first start after Sam Darnold was diagnosed with a shoulder injury that is set to keep him out for 4-6 weeks.

However, Newton could definitely get some snaps on Sunday. After all, they did bring him in to make up for the loss of Darnold. It remains to be seen if the 2015 MVP will find his previous brilliance, but it could be exactly what he needs to revive his career.

Prior to signing with the Panthers, Newton was released by the New England Patriots in August due to his vaccination status and the team looking to move forward with Mac Jones.

Carolina has fond memories of Newton's time with the franchise, leading them to a Super Bowl in 2015 and several impressive seasons. It's going to be very interesting to see if the veteran signal-caller will have a similar impact this time around.
