The Carolina Panthers are far from being eliminated from playoff contention. However, they also aren't the most exciting team to watch this season. In fact, they've played so poorly that some aren't even sure if Ron Rivera will remain as the teams head coach starting next season.

However, the team's ownership has not made any clear signs that they're trying to move on from the team's head coaching situation. According to Alaina Getzenberg of the Charlotte Observer, the future of head coach Ron Rivera is in doubt.

The head coaching situation was not discussed by the team, as it seems that their top priority is checking the condition of Cam Newton. The talented quarterback is still considered as one of the most talented passers in the league despite his injury. If they decide to keep Newton around, the team may have to re-tool their offense.

If that's the case, Rivera may not be a permanent fixture on the Carolina sideline any longer. While he's done a solid job of leading the team, the way he has been conservative about the game is something fans aren't happy about. The way he gave up against the Atlanta Falcons was a pathetic display for the Panthers.

Even if they don't keep Newton, the Panthers would do better with a new man leading the sidelines. Rivera has seemingly become unimaginative with his approaches, and he will likely get shown the door at the end of the season if he doesn't get his act together.
