The Kyle Allen era is over in Carolina.

Well, at least for now.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Panthers are expected to start rookie quarterback Will Grier for their Week 16 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday.

The move comes after Allen's latest disappointing performance in which he completed 25 of his 41 passes for 277 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions in a 30-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks this past weekend.

Allen took over under center for Carolina back in Week 3 after Cam Newton went down with a foot injury. The early results were impressive, as the Panthers won each of Allen's first four starts, but since then, Carolina has gone just 1-7, and during this skid, Allen has thrown 10 touchdowns as opposed to 15 interceptions.

In 12 starts this season overall, Allen has thrown for 3,027 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 picks while completing 62.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 80.6.

Grier, who played his collegiate football at West Virginia, was selected by the Panthers in the third round (100th pick overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He actually began his NCAA career at the University of Florida before transferring to West Virginia, taking over as the Mountaineers' starting signal-caller in his junior campaign in 2017.

During his first season as the starter, Grier threw for 3,490 yards, 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 64.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 162.7. He then concluded his collegiate career by totaling 3,864 yards, 37 touchdowns and eight picks while completing 67 percent of his throws and recording a passer rating of 175.5. in his final season at West Virginia.
