Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton aggravated his foot injury and there is no timetable for when he may return:

This is an injury that initially showed up during the preseason, but it wasn't something that was expected to slow Newton down during the regular season.

This is just another setback for Newton, who has had plenty of those in the last few years. During the offseason, he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, which was a big concern coming into the season. Answers about his shoulder really haven't been answered, especially after watching him be so inaccurate to start the season.

The Panthers have gotten off to a slow start by losing their first two games, and Newton hasn't been great with just 572 yards passing, one interception, and zero touchdowns.

Even with the struggles, Newton is still the best option at quarterback for the Panthers. Behind Newton, the Panthers have Kyle Allen and Will Grier, with Allen listed second on the depth chart.

Allen did get some playing time last season when Newton was out. Allen appeared in two games, getting one start and throwing for 266 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Allen might not be the best option long term for the Panthers, but at least he does have a start under his belt in the NFL. So, it won't be a total deer-in-headlights situation if he does have to start in place of Cam Newton against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night.
