There is now another notable injury concern for the Carolina Panthers in their Week 16 home matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Over the early stages of the third quarter, Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore appeared to have suffered a non-contact groin injury. He sustained the injury after Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady connected with tight end Rob Gronkowski for a 23-yard completion. In the end, the Panthers defense held its own on the drive, as Tampa Bay settled for a 21-yard field goal to extend its lead to 22-6.

For Gilmore, he was subsequently checked out by the team's trainers after he went down on the play. The veteran cornerback was able to walk off the field without any assistance, but he did head straight into the medical tent for further evaluation.

It did not take long for the Panthers to make a decision on Gilmore’s status for the remainder of the game, as he has been ruled out due to his groin injury.

Gilmore has been marred by injuries as of late. He was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday due to a knee issue. Still, the Panthers did not place any injury designation on him for Week 16, paving the way for him to feature against the Buccaneers.

Gilmore has appeared in eight games with the Panthers this season, where he has tallied for 16 total tackles and two interceptions.
