The Carolina Panthers agreed to a contract with Teddy Bridgewater last week. On Wednesday, they made it official, announcing that they had signed the quarterback to a three-year, $63 million deal, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

The contract contains $30 million in guaranteed money.

Bridgewater spent the last couple of seasons with the New Orleans Saints, and this past year, he started five games while Drew Brees was out with a thumb injury.

During that time, Bridgewater was terrific, throwing for 1,384 yards, nine touchdowns, and a couple of interceptions while completing 67.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.1.

The Saints also went undefeated in his five starts.

However, Bridgewater has made just six starts since 2016, which has many in wait-and-see mode in terms of how they think he will fit with the Panthers.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisville, was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round (32nd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He started 12 games during his rookie year, and by his sophomore season, he was the Vikings' full-time starter under center. Bridgewater experienced moderate success over that time, totaling 28 touchdowns and 21 interceptions over those two years and leading Minnesota to 11 wins and a playoff appearance in the latter season.

However, during the summer of 2016, Bridgewater suffered a devastating knee injury that knocked him out for all of that ensuing season and ended his run as the Vikings' starter.

He remained with Minnesota through 2017 and signed with the New York Jets in March 2018. The Jets then traded him to the Saints later that offseason.
