Everyone is anxiously waiting to see what the Carolina Panthers choose to do at quarterback and it seems that they've made a decision. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Carolina is moving forward with Cam Newton as their starting quarterback.

Nearly two weeks ago, owner David Tepper made some interesting comments about Newton and his health. However, since those comments were made, it appears that Newton has made some positive progress in his recovery.

Of course, Newton is still recovering from the foot surgery that he underwent in December. As of now, the Panthers are hoping that he can resume football activities within the next month.

Besides his foot injury, it's also worth noting that Newton also underwent shoulder surgery nearly a year ago. Therefore, he will have ample time to make sure his body is one-hundred percent before returning to the field.

Due to his injury woes in recent seasons, it was well-documented that the Panthers could move on from Newton this offseason. In the event that they released or traded the former MVP, Carolina would be able to create $19.1 million in cap savings.

On the other hand, the Panthers can allow Newton to finish out his contract with the team in 2020. With how expensive some quarterbacks are, paying Newton $21.1 million next season isn't much of a burden. It would be even better if the Panthers could get a healthy version of Newton under center though.

Seeing that Matt Rhule was given a lucrative contract to become the team's next head coach, it's likely that he was the driving force that led to Newton being named the starter this offseason. The rumors that Newton could be traded can now subside as the Panthers are prepared to keep him.
