There is plenty of speculation regarding the uncertain future of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. It seems team owner David Tepper has given a strong indication of the team's plans.

Newton made it clear during Super Bowl week that he fully plans on being with the Panthers in the 2020 NFL season. Tepper has since responded to this notion with a question of his health, via ESPN's David Newton:

“Listen, I'm not a doctor,” Tepper said. “And I've said it a million times: ‘Is he healthy?' He's not a doctor. There's a lot of different things that can happen. But first is, is he healthy? Tell me that, and then we can talk.”

Rumors have begun to swirl about the possibility of Carolina making a deal with one of the many quarterback-hungry teams around the league. Newton tried to downplay the prospect of playing anywhere else by expressing his plans to stay. However, Tepper's comments indicate that nothing is set in stone at the moment.

Newton has been dealing with severe injuries over the last two years and it has left the Panthers in a state of flux heading into the 2020 NFL Season. After dealing with a lingering shoulder injury, he missed all but two games in the 2019 campaign with a Lisfranc fracture. The uncertain nature of the foot injury has clearly left ownership with plenty of doubts about his future with the team.

It is no secret that Carolina is in the midst of a grueling rebuild. Parting ways with Cam Newton as their longtime franchise quarterback would make it official that they are ready to usher in a new era under center.
