The Carolina Panthers are seemingly in the midst of a rebuild with the changes they have made in the offseason. As a result, it remains to be seen whether or not they will move forward with quarterback Cam Newton.

Rumors have begun to swirl about some potential trade destinations for Newton while he continues to recover from a foot injury. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Panthers will not decide on his future until he is back in action:

The Panthers won't have much to say about QB Cam Newton until he's fully healthy, because nothing matters about his future until then.

The report indicates that Carolina is in no rush to come to a decision just yet. The approach is certainly understandable with free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft still set to take place this offseason. They should have a much better understanding of both Newton's health and their personnel that time.

It is safe to say that the Panthers do not have much of a contingency set in place in the event of Newton's departure. Backup quarterback Kyle Allen was underwhelming during his tenure as the starter. And it became apparent that rookie quarterback Will Grier is still a work in progress.

Carolina has already ushered in some significant changes with the arrival of head coach Matt Rhule. Having a healthy Newton back should serve as stabilizing factor for the rookie head coach. It will be interesting to see how adamant Rhule is about keeping him around for the 2020 NFL season.
