The Carolina Panthers are coming off of a disappointing 2018 campaign in which they won just seven games and missed the playoffs, but their 7-9 record was a bit misleading.

The Panthers actually got off to a 6-2 start this past season and looked primed to contend in the NFC before quarterback Cam Newton began experiencing shoulder issues, a big reason why Carolina lost seven of its last eight games.

Newton's shoulder problem became so severe that he was actually shut down for the final two games of the season and then underwent arthroscopic surgery in January.

But now, Newton is on the mend and the Panthers seem ready to vault themselves back into contention, and new wide receiver Chris Hogan is liking what he is seeing from his new team thus far:

“Oh yeah,” Hogan told ESPN's David Newton when asked if the Panthers were Super Bowl-caliber. “It seems like to me all the tools are there. We have a lot of talent, a lot of good guys (on offense). Our defense, they look pretty scary on paper.”

Hogan, who spent the previous three seasons with the New England Patriots and won a couple of Super Bowls in the process, added that his new Panthers teammates are “some of the most competitive guys I've been around.”

The 30-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and hauled in 35 receptions for 532 yards and three touchdowns.

Now, Hogan will likely have a larger role in Carolina, and he will bring a much-needed championship pedigree to the club.
