Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is close to achieving a feat that only two other players in NFL history have accomplished before, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

McCaffrey currently owns 979 rushing yards and 94 receptions on the season. If he ends up with 1,000 yards and 100 catches, he will become just the third player ever to achieve such a distinction.

The only other two players to do it? Former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte and former then-San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson.

To go along with his rushing yardage and catch total this season, McCaffrey has scored seven touchdowns on the ground while averaging five yards per carry. In addition, he has recorded 768 receiving yards as well as six touchdowns as a pass-catcher.

McCaffrey, who played his collegiate football at Stanford University, was originally selected by the Panthers with the eighth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He had a fairly disappointing rookie campaign as a rusher, finishing with just 435 yards and two scores while registering a meager 3.7 yards per attempt. However, he was decent as a receiver, hauling in 80 receptions for 651 yards while reaching the end zone five times.

Carolina is coming off of a tight 12-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, dropping the Panthers to 6-8 and all but eliminating them from playoff contention.

In order for the Panthers to make the postseason at this point, they would need to win out and get a lot of help from several teams in front of them.

They will host the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
