A new development has just emerged in Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey's recent shoulder injury. A new report states that the 24-year-old's injury may not be as serious as previously determined, and that he could be back in action sooner rather than later.
This report comes via NFL.com's Ian Rapoport:
McCaffrey sustained the injury in Carolina's Week 9 defeat at the hands of the defending champs, the Kansas City Chiefs. CMC was on the receiving end of a tough tackle late in the game against the Chiefs, and he looked to be in some serious pain after the incident.
Initial test results were optimistic, though, and he was tagged as day-to-day. However, McCaffrey was not expected to take the field for Week 10, and no timetable was provided for his return. The recent second opinion he got was clearly a positive indication, with the Panthers' star RB now expected to suit up for Week 11 against the Detroit Lions. At this point, it looks like it's just going to be a one-game absence for him.
This certainly bodes well for the 3-6 Panthers, who have been relying heavily on McCaffrey for the better part of the season. Against the Chiefs, he rushed 18 times for a 69-yard gain and a touchdown, while also catching 10-of-10 targets for 82 yards and a touchdown. The All-Pro running back is one of the best in the business, and needless to say, Carolina gain a significant boost with him on the field.
