Is the NFL conducting any counter-intuitive thinking when it comes to the jersey swapping decision?

That seems to be what Carolina Panthers' wide receiver D.J. Moore believes. Following the NFL's announcement earlier Thursday that jersey swaps would be banned during the 2020 season, Moore took to Twitter to express his confusion on the decision.

What is stopping Jersey swap going to do? We already played in a whole game!!

He makes a valid point. Football is a contact sport with close contact between most players on the field. A jersey swap would not pose any more of a risk of transmission than the playing of the game would. This seems to be a PR move by the NFL to appear to be doing something to attempt to reduce the risk of players transmitting the coronavirus to each other while still having the games being played.

This PR move does not seem to be going over the heads of the players in the league. Moore was not the only player to call out the logical fallacy of the decision, with players such as Richard Sherman, Darron Lee, Deshaun Watson and George Kittle calling out the decision while still wanting to play.

The NFL has been focusing on being full-steam ahead ever since the pandemic took sports out back in March. The league went ahead with their draft on time, albeit virtually, and have been focusing on getting the season up and running on time. With the clock ticking however, and with college football appearing to at least be going to an all-conference play season at least, the NFL is in a tough spot and no amount of window dressing is going to help.
