Free agent defensive lineman Gerald McCoy will meet with the Carolina Panthers this week, according to Joe Person of The Athletic.

McCoy has already visited with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, concluding his meeting with the Ravens on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on May 20 after a nine-year run with the club. He is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 14 games and registered 28 tackles and six sacks.

McCoy, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Buccaneers with the third overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 13 contests during his rookie season, finishing with 27 tackles, three sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, and five passes defended. By his third year in the league, McCoy was a Pro Bowler courtesy of totaling 30 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

McCoy then went on to make six straight Pro Bowl appearances, including a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections. His best season came in 2013, when he racked up 50 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and four passes defended.

It has been a strange couple of months for McCoy, as new Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians questioned his desire earlier in the offseason. Then, new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles dodged questions about whether or not he wanted McCoy on his defense.

Obviously, Tampa Bay felt it was best to move on from McCoy, and now, McCoy will get the opportunity to play for a better team.
