The Carolina Panthers have been impressed with Javien Elliott in training camp and may decide to start him at their nickel cornerback position. Elliott tends to compare his professional story to “Rudy.”

Some may not know but ‘Rudy' was a movie made in 1993 that was based on Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger's quest to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in college. Despite the obstacles he endured, Ruettiger overcame them and became a crucial piece for Notre Dame's defense as a walk-on player.

Similarly to Rudy, Elliott has been an underdog since his days in high school. The Panthers cornerback attended Rutherford High School in Florida but failed to receive any interest from college recruiters.

As a result, Elliott decided to attend Tallahassee Community College before deciding to walk on at Florida State. During his first two seasons at Florida State, the defensive back spent his time on the scout team.

Remarkably, Elliott earned a scholarship from the team in his senior season and started in six games for the Seminoles. However, the Florida State cornerback went overlooked once again and went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Nonetheless, Elliott signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie. Elliott would spend three seasons with the Buccaneers organization, starting in seven games for the team.

In June, the Panthers decided to bring Elliott in to compete for a spot on the roster in training camp. So far, Elliott has put himself in phenomenal position to win the team's starting nickel-cornerback spot.

Unlike Rudy, the players on the Panthers likely won't need to turn in their jerseys to allow Elliott to get the opportunity to start for the team this year.
