Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kawann Short has been upgraded to questionable for his team's game against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, according to the team.

Short has been dealing with a calf injury that he sustained in practice on Thursday.

Through 13 games this season, Short has registered 39 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Purdue University, was originally selected by the Panthers in the second round (44th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He went on to play in all 16 games during his rookie campaign, finishing with 35 stops, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. The following season, Short was even better, totaling 46 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pair of fumble recoveries.

The East Chicago, In. native then had his breakout year in 2015, racking up 55 tackles, 11 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Since then, Short has been a steady contributor along Carolina's defensive line, recording 16.5 sacks over the last three seasons.

The Panthers are currently 6-7 and are relying on some help to get into the postseason. They are behind the Minnesota Vikings (who came into Sunday's action with a record of 6-6-1) for the final Wild Card spot in the NFC.

After hosting the Saints on Monday, Carolina will play host to the Atlanta Falcons next weekend before heading on the road to battle New Orleans in its final game of the regular season on Dec. 30.

The Panthers have made the playoffs in four of the last five years.
