Carolina Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen has filled in well while Cam Newton but as he gets more starts he needs to take better care of the football. Allen is 2-0 as a starter since taking over for Newton, but he has fumbled five times in those two games, and he knows that is something that is unacceptable.

The Panthers have managed to come away with victories over the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans, but he knows going forward if he continues to fumble the losses are going to start to pile up.

“For me it’s unacceptable, and I can’t put the team in a position like that if we want to win games,” said Allen, who has fumbled on the opening drive of both starts this season via the Associated Press. “So I take that to hear and I’m working to get better.”

Allen said it's been something he has worked hard on in practice and he needs to translate it to the field quickly. One of the issues for Allen has been how deep he has dropped in pockets and now that he has gotten more comfortable stepping up in the pocket, he thinks he can improve.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera knows that Allen is aware of the fumbling issues, and thinks sometimes you have to give the defense credit for making a big play.

“He’s aware of it,” coach Ron Rivera said of the issue. “It’s a couple of things that happen in the game that you have to give credit to the guy rushing him as well. JJ Watt is a pretty spectacular guy who made a pretty doggone big-time play.”

The Panthers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and the Jaguars defense will be trying to create a couple more fumbles.
