The Carolina Panthers have a new owner in David Tepper, who will now have the power to make whatever changes to the franchise he sees fit (except Jerry Richardson's statue, of course). After the controversy which led to the Panthers’ sale, he will likely look to make some big changes within the organization.

But during his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Tepper says he doesn’t plan on making any moves on the football side at the moment.

“You actually have — you don’t want to give people too many compliments — but you’re actually blessed with a pretty good football side here, . . .” Tepper said per Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk. “I’m not looking to do too much there. I think we’ve got some good folks there.”

Tepper praised head coach Ron Rivera, whom he described as a “natural defensive guy” who’s imparted that strength to the team. He also noted the “pretty good addition” of new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who was brought in this offseason to replace Mike Shula.

It’s hard to argue that the Panthers have been in good hands with Rivera. The team has gone 64-47-1 during Rivera’s seven-year tenure. They have also reached the playoffs in four of the last five years and made their second-ever trip to the Super Bowl in 2015.

As for Turner, his main task in his debut season will be to get the best out of Cam Newton in the passing game after seemingly stagnating over the last couple of years. It remains to be seen whether he will succeed in that goal, but at least he has the confidence of the new boss, which is always a good place to start.
