The Turner family has taken over the offense for the Carolina Panthers, with Norv coming in as the new offensive coordinator and his son Scott as quarterbacks coach. The 35-year-old Turner landed his first NFL job as Carolina's offensive quality control coordinator in 2011, the same year the franchise drafted Cam Newton.

He immediately knew that the organization had their signal-caller for the long haul. From Max Henson of Panthers.com:

“I still remember his first game against Arizona him throwing for 400-some yards and being like, ‘Wow, look at this talent level this guy has,’” Turner recalled Wednesday. “And after coming off the lockout where he didn’t even have the offseason.”

When head coach Ron Rivera hired Norv Turner, he said he believed the former head coach could help Cam take his game to “another level.” Norv said he's confident that he and his son will succeed in helping Newton become a more accurate passer, a point of emphasis given that he only completed 56 percent of his passes over the last two seasons.

While Scott concurs, he made it clear that he doesn't feel Cam needs to change his game to succeed moving forward.

“A lot of things go into that – your eyes, your feet and ultimately your decision making. If you can get those three things down in regards to your completion percentage, a lot of times instead of trying to make the high-degree-of-difficulty throw, you can get the ball to the back or tight end,” Scott Turner said. “He doesn’t need changing; he just needs to be the best version of Cam Newton.”

Turner went on about how Newton will continue to run given how important that facet of his game is to his overall effectiveness as a dual-threat passer. At this point in Cam's career, the younger Turner believes the quarterback has evolved to better know when to stay in the pocket to deliver a throw down the field and when to escape to pick up some yards.

If Newton becomes just a little bit more accurate, watch out.
