Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera gave just about the best news a fan of the team could've asked for on Tuesday. He said there's ‘no doubt' that star quarterback Cam Newton will be ready for their Week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

Obviously, having your starting quarterback for any game is important. Going up against the Los Angeles Rams (who made it to the Super Bowl last year) just highlights how important it can be.

Newton was injured in the third week of the preseason – the first time he had seen game action all year. After the game, he was seen walking with a boot on and the speculation ran wild. However, it appears to be nothing serious at all as the quarterback will be out on the field for Week 1 of the regular season.

Newton has been one of the most exciting players in the NFL since being drafted back in 2011. With that in mind, it would've been a shame if he wasn't out there for the opening week of 2019.

At the same time though, Newton was once an obvious MVP candidate. Especially after 2015 when he had career-bests in yards (3,837), touchdowns (35) and interceptions (10). Since then, he hasn't been able to find that exact magic.

Could Newton regain it in 2019 though? He did set a new career-high in completion percentage last season (67.9%) and his 24 touchdowns were tied for the most he's thrown in a season outside of 2015. Could he be on the path to rebounding?

For that to happen, Newton needs to be healthy though. He's taken the right first step as Rivera has said that's the case. Now it's time to see if Newton can bring the Carolina Panthers back into the Super Bowl discussion.
