The Carolina Panthers are set to hit the road to square off against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 of the 2019 NFL season. It seems quarterback Cam Newton's status for the game is still up in the air.

Newton re-injured the foot injury that he suffered during the preseason against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. According to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk, head coach Ron Rivera is still unsure if he will be able to play:

“I have no idea,” Rivera replied when asked if he thought Newton could go this week.

Rivera's hesitance is hardly an encouraging sign that Newton will be good to go. Even if he is less than 100 percent, his recent play hardly inspires any confidence that Carolina will be able to pick up their first win of the season this week.

Newton had initially suffered the foot injury during the third preseason game. Carolina currently has him listed as day-to-day as he looks to work his way back onto the practice field at some point this week. His involvement over the next few days could determine whether or not he will be able to go.

It is no secret that Newton has struggled mightily during the first two games of the season. He has now thrown for 572 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception while completing only 56.2% of his throws thus far.

If he is unable to play, Kyle Allen will be filling in for him under center after beating out Will Grier for the backup job this offseason.
