Jordan Palmer, a former NFL quarterback and now quarterback guru, was the one who recorded the video of Darnold's surprise party. In the video, Darnold was smiling the entire time and was ecstatic at the news that he was traded to the Panthers.

With New York positioned to take a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, they made Darnold available via trade this offseason. While the market for Darnold was quiet, Carolina emerged as a potential landing spot as they realized they weren't in a position to get one of the premier quarterback prospects at No. 8.

Besides making the move to get Darnold, the Panthers showed their commitment to him by immediately picking up his fifth-year option. As a result, Carolina is now on the books for $18.8 million to Darnold for the 2022 season.

The former No. 3 overall pick out of USC hasn't had the start to his career he envisioned having with the Jets. In his first three seasons, Darnold has thrown for 45 touchdowns and 39 interceptions while posting a 13-25 record in New York.

But in Darnold's defense, he didn't have much to work with on the Jets and Adam Gase was his head coach. Darnold is undoubtedly exhilarated to get a fresh start with Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, and Robby Anderson as his weapons on offense.
