Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson learned from some of the best that the league has ever seen. Although the tandem of Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis no longer reside in Carolina, Thompson knows just how valuable that time that he spent with this prolific linebacker duo was for his career as an NFL defender.

With Thompson currently serving as the new cornerstone of the Carolina defense, the Panthers remain in very good hands, thanks to the skills, knowledge, and leadership of both Kuechly and Davis, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

The 26-year-old Thompson was originally selected by the Panthers in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Washington and has since transformed into quite the playmaker for Carolina. Spending his entire NFL career as a member of the Panthers while that doesn't seem like it is going to change any time soon, Thompson encountered a career year in 2019 en route to producing a single-season career-high 109 total tackles alongside a trio of sacks and three pass defenses. He also appeared in 14 regular-season games for the Panthers.

On the other hand, Thompson will now begin gearing up for his first go-round with either Kuechly or Davis alongside him. With Kuechly electing to retire from football earlier in the offseason after notably spending his entire NFL playing career with the Panthers, Davis previously moved on from Carolina a few seasons ago and has since joined both the Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Redskins along the way.

The Panthers will need another stellar year from Thompson in 2020 as the NFC South has quickly become the best division in all of football.
