Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey suffered what looked to be a serious hamstring injury on Thursday night, but he seems to have avoided something major. It was reported Friday that he would only miss a few weeks, and Jason La Canfora is now saying the injury isn't even a Grade 1 strain.

Via CBS Sports:

McCaffrey, who missed almost all of 2020 due to a series of injuries after a record-setting 2019 campaign, limped off the field in Thursday's victory over the Texans and did not return. However, sources said the strain was diagnosed as less than a Grade 1 (a grade .50 as one source put it), which was a considerable relief to Carolina's coaches and staff, who are banking on McCaffrey as a workhorse in the run and pass game.

The Panthers star is still expected to miss a couple of weeks, though there's no exact timetable and perhaps the running back can beat expectations by only missing Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Carolina is off to a surprising 3-0 start behind Sam Darnold and a dominant defense. McCaffrey has been solid so far, rushing 52 times for 201 yards and a score while catching 16 passes for 163 yards.
