Former first-round pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is a free agent this offseason and Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report thinks that the Carolina Panthers should pursue him. Clinton-Dix started his career with the Green Bay Packers before being traded to the Washington Redskins before the October 30th trade deadline this season.

The thought is that the Redskins want to re-sign him, but with the injury to Alex Smith, the Redskins might need to spend their money on a new quarterback instead of bringing back Clinton-Dix. Coach Jay Gruden said after the season they would love to have him back, but he's a free agent so they would have to see how it all plays out.

Moton thinks that where the Panthers would be a good fit because they need to sure up their secondary and they also have the cap space to sign him.

They have a projected $23.3 million in cap space for the 2019 term, per Spotrac. A backloaded deal to ease the immediate cost would give them flexibility for the first couple of years on a long-term contract.

Through five seasons, Clinton-Dix, 25, has recorded 28 pass breakups and 14 interceptions, which makes him an attractive fit for Carolina's leaky pass defense that's allowed 28 scores in 14 games (tied for fourth-worst in the league).

Clinton-Dix has been pretty quiet about what he's looking for in his next team or if he even has some teams in mind but it should play out in the next few months. On paper, it would make a lot of sense for the Panthers and Clinton-Dix to try and work something out.
