Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in what is one of the most highly-anticipated matchups of the NFL season. Recently, Mahomes took a quick stroll down memory lane, as he recalled a message Brady gave him last year that continues to make its mark on the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

The exchange went down moments after Brady's New England Patriots defeated the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game back in January of 2019. Mahomes remembers the conversation like it was yesterday:

“He just grabbed me after the game,” Mahomes said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “I was kind of leaving the stadium, and they had obviously been celebrating going to the Super Bowl. He just talked about how he respected how I did everything the right way and stuff like that. It's just cool to have a guy of that stature who's won championships it seems like year in and year out that has respect for your game as much as you have respect for his. It was definitely a cool experience that I was able to know that I was doing things the right way early in my career.”

Needless to say, Brady's words of encouragement had a significant impact on Mahomes. Not long after, there was a passing of the torch between the old guard and the new school, as Mahomes led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl trophy last season.

These two great quarterbacks will rekindle old flames on Sunday, in what has been pitted as a matchup between two of the top QBs in NFL history.
