The New England Patriots are in a spot they have not been in for a very long time. They are looking for a new quarterback.
Tom Brady decided not to return, heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers instead. Which leaves the Patriots with Jarrett Stidham at the position right now.
Due to that, many expect the Patriots to make a move to acquire a veteran quarterback to take over for Brady.
One of the most popular names that has been thrown around is Andy Dalton. However, according to Jeff Howe of “The Athletic”, the Patriots do not have Dalton in their plans at the moment.
Dalton is currently on the Cincinnati Bengals. However, it is widely believed that he will be released or traded before the start of next season. That is because the Bengals are expected to take quarterback Joe Burrow with the first overall pick.
With Dalton available, many seem to believe he could be a good fit for Belichick and the Patriots.
That begin said, the Patriots have options.
They could go after Jameis Winston, Cam Newton or Jacoby Brissett as well. And if they really want to, they could take someone in the upcoming draft.
Or maybe the plan is indeed for the unprecedented New England rebuild. If that's the case, they might be looking at a quarterback in the 2021 or 2022 NFL Drafts.
In that scenario, they definitely would not want Dalton, who could thrive in the system and help them stay as as serious playoff contending team.
This is a strange time we're in. And that extends to the football world. Brady is no longer in New England. Which means that coveted quarterbacking spot is open. It doesn't look like it's going to Dalton though.
