The New England Patriots were unaware that Antonio Brown would have sexual assault allegations against him when they signed him last week. However, Brown has known about it as he and his accuser have engaged in settlement talks for months.

When the news came out, everyone was surprised to see Brown involved in rape allegations with his former trainer. Britney Taylor, the accuser, filed the civil lawsuit on Tuesday in Southern Florida.

The alleged incidents occurred from 2017-18 when Brown, ready to debut for the Patriots on Sunday, was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL has been gathering evidence in the case and will speak to the victim Taylor on Monday. On the other hand, Brown has been reportedly cooperative with the NFL as well.

Despite the ongoing investigation, there is a chance that both sides reach a settlement before the case goes to court. Brown and Taylor have discussed a settlement in the past year, but neither side has come to an agreement up to this point.

A settlement in this situation wouldn't label Brown as guilty or not guilty but would rather prevent the case from impeding forward. Considering the statement from Brown includes a $1.6 million inquiry from Taylor; that may be the asking price for the settlement.

At the time, Taylor asked for the $1.6 million as an investment for a “business project” she was working on (according to Brown). The receiver refused to transfer money to Taylor as he believes she is trying to extort him for money.

As the league continues to collect more information, Brown will suit up in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins. We will continue to update this story as it unfolds.
