Former NFL linebacker Bart Scott thinks the Detroit Lions should shake up the lead by trading Matthew Stafford to the New England Patriots.

On Tuesday morning, on ESPN's Get Up, Scott said it would make a lot of sense for both sides to try and work out a trade. Scott knows the Patriots will be in a win-now mode, even if they don't have Tom Brady, which is why they need to find a proven quarterback.

He also doesn't think the Lions will be contenders next year. It's his belief the team can draft Tua, which will also buy Matt Patricia more time to turn around the team.

“I think Matt Patricia can really do his former boss who got him started in coaching and groomed him up in Bill Belichick (a favor) and send Matthew Stafford to the Patriots in return for a first-round draft pick,” Scott said H/T to NESN for transcribing the video from ESPN.

“It allows Matt Patricia to buy some time. Listen, Matthew Stafford is an elite quarterback. He’s a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, but what have you won with him? He’s the only asset you have. This team is not going to win or contend in that division next year, the year after. You get Tua (Tagovailoa), Tua can sit for a year and now Patricia has his quarterback of the future that can retool and rebuild this offense and rebuild this team in Detroit.”

This could make a lot of sense for both teams, but it's hard to believe the Lions will be willing to trade away their franchise quarterback. If for some reason they are, though, the Patriots need to offer whatever the Lions want to make a deal happen. Stafford might actually be an upgrade for the Patriots over Brady.
