The New England Patriots have been searching for a replacement for Rob Gronkowski and it doesn't seem as if Benjamin Watson is their answer. According to Ian Rapoport, Watson wants to keep playing despite not being activated by the Patriots.
#Patriots TE Ben Watson, who was not activated today by New England meaning his tenure is over, does want to keep playing, I’m told. So retirement gets pushed off against as he looks for a new home.

The veteran tight end also posted on social media that he is ‘disappointed' in the decision made by New England.
The God of victory is also God in failure. I gave my all, but it was not enough to earn a spot on the @Patriots roster. I’m beyond disappointed but even more upset for my family who has supported me with all the love a husband and father could ask for. They are my heroes. Rom 8:28

The Patriots signed Watson earlier this offseason after Gronkowski announced his retirement from the NFL. Soon after he joined the team, the NFL handed Watson a four-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.
When he received the suspension, it was assumed that the 38-year-old tight end would become the starter upon his return. Instead, after serving his month-long suspension, Watson wasn't activated to the Patriots roster in Week 5.
New England decided to utilize Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo at tight end on Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Then, just a day after New England's 33-7 victory over the Redskins, Watson appears to be on his way out.
Before joining the Patriots this offseason, Watson actually retired from football after his 15th season. After being released by the team on Monday, the pass-catching tight end isn't interested in calling it quits just yet.
As many may know, Watson began his career with the Patriots as a first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. The Virginia native spent six seasons with New England and was part one of the team's Super Bowl rosters.
After leaving New England in 2010, Watson spent time with three different teams. Now, he'll possibly be looking to play for the fifth different team in his career as he searches for a new home in 2019.
