The New England Patriots are set to play in their eighth Super Bowl under head coach Bill Belichick, and 10th overall, on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to NFL Research, Belichick will make even more NFL history with yet another appearance on the grandest stage in the sport.

Since taking over the head coaching job with the Patriots, Belichick has brought consistent success to the franchise alongside quarterback Tom Brady for essentially the entire duration.  He has compiled 15 playoff appearances, 15 AFC East division titles, 12 AFC Championship game appearances, and now eight Super Bowl appearances with a chance to win a sixth Lombardi Trophy.

The Patriots also hold the NFL's longest streak with 17 straight winning record seasons since 1970, surpassing the Dallas Cowboys (1970-85) and San Francisco 49ers (1983-1998). They have also notched their seventh season with at least 13 wins, which is only second to the 49ers (nine) in NFL history. On top of that, they have notched a league record with their current streak of eight straight years with at least 12 wins, edging the Indianapolis Colts (2003-09). New England has also become the first franchise to reach the Super Bowl 10 times.

Under Belichick, the Patriots have become the standard bearers in the league because of their consistent level of success for two decades. This has not only made the 65-year-old a sure-fire Hall of Famer, but also arguably the best coach in league history and in all professional sports. His first two appearances in the Super Bowl came as the defensive coordinator with the New York Giants under Bill Parcells, and later with New England as the assistant head coach & defensive backs coach under Parcells.

Belichick could add to his already stacked resume over the next few seasons, or however long he desires to continue coaching with the Patriots. In the meantime, he is in position to add another Super Bowl win to his illustrious coaching career.
