The 2020 NFL season is officially over for the New England Patriots. In a campaign that started less than ideal with the departure of legendary QB Tom Brady, it ended pretty much how everyone expected it to for the Pats. Their 7-9 record is their first losing record since 2000–which was head coach Bill Belichick's first year as the head honcho.

Brady's departure for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers obviously left a huge hole in their offense, which the team tried to fill with the acquisition of another MVP QB in Cam Newton. Unfortunately, Superman Cam was far from the superhero he needed to be in his first year in New England.

Following this, rumors have sparked that the 31-year-old might be on his way out of the Patriots camp this offseason, which Belichick was quick to brush off after their game on Sunday (per NBC Sports):

Q: There was a report on ESPN today there’s an understanding between you and Cam Newton that you’ll be going in different directions this offseason. Is there an understanding this was Cam’s final game?

A: Is that another one of your anonymous reports?

Q: That was from Adam Schefter this morning.

A: I don’t think that’s what Adam said. You should talk to Adam about that then. Great question, thank you.

The Patriots were able to somewhat salvage their season with a 28-14 win over the New York Jets. Despite ending their season with a W, though, they're still off to an early break as Bill Belichick and the rest of the organization will be missing the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.

It's definitely going to be an interesting couple of months for these Patriots.
