New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick typically doesn't reveal much about matters relating to his own team to the media, instead saving his possibly-genuine praise for upcoming opponents.

The six-time Super Bowl winning coach has a habit of paying hyperbolic compliments onto players or teams the Patriots are getting ready to face, though it's hard to decipher whether his words are a form of gamesmanship or true admiration.

For instance, ahead of New England's Week 7 contest against the San Francisco 49ers, Belichick essentially called tight end George Kittle the best player of all-time.

On Tuesday, ahead of the Patriots matchup with the winless New York Jets, Belichick presented a unique and befuddling evaluation of Adam Gase's winless group.

“They’re a lot better than they were last year,” he said, via Manish Mehta of The New York Post.

The Jets were by no means good in 2019, though they did suffer through Sam Darnold's mono diagnosis and a brutal schedule to end up at 7-9. Considering the team is 0-8 in 2020 with by far the worst DVOA in football by a wide margin, it's hard to argue that Gase's group has improved.

“I think they’ve played very competitively,” Belichick added. “The offense is improved… They get a little better each week.”

As Mehta pointed out, the Jets have simply been consistently non-competitive across the board in every game this season, especially on offense.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones threw a similar brand of trollish respect the Jets' way before Week 8, claiming that “people forget” the New York squad is a good football team because they haven't won a game. The Chiefs rolled at the Meadowlands, 35-9.
