After seismic changes this offseason saw the New England Patriots lose their legendary quarterback Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency, the Pats have a question mark at the QB spot for the first time in two decades.

According to head coach Bill Belichick, the team likes its options at the QB spot. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of signing a veteran at some point on an interview on NFL Network:

“You never know what is going to happen down the road, but we feel like we have four good players there,” the coach replied. “We added Brian and J’Mar to Hoyer and Stidham. We added Hoyer and had Stidham from last year. We like working with those guys, and we’ll see how it goes.”

The Patriots' current depth chart lists Jarrett Stidham as the No. 1 QB on the team. And that makes sense as he was the only other quarterback other than Tom Terrific to throw a pass for New England in the 2019 season.

Beyond that, the Pats have longtime backup Brian Hoyer (a Super Bowl champ with the Patriots in 2018), Brian Lewerke and J’Mar Smith also in the running for the gig.

Stidham was a rookie last season for New England after he was taken in the fourth round of the NFL draft with the 133rd overall pick out of Auburn.

While you can never truly know what the Patriots franchise is going to do, it wouldn’t be surprising for the team to test a deep draft pick at the QB position – look how well it worked out for them with the 199th overall pick in 2000: Tom Brady.
