Former Cleveland Browns and current New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon remains away from the game of football as he continues to recover from his latest hiccup off the field. As a result, his future in New England remains uncertain as even Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn't know if the once prolific wideout with suit up for the AFC East franchise come 2019.

“Yeah, I don’t know,” the longtime Patriots head coach recently told NESN. “His status isn’t under our control.”

As it stands today, Gordon remains indefinitely suspended by the league for violating its substance abuse policy toward the end of the 2018 campaign.

“Directly I have not spoken to him since his last suspension,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell previously said of Gordon, via 247 Sports. “I do know he's in treatment. He's a young man who has had a lot of challenges. I have gotten to know him and understands his struggles and the challenges that he's had to go through and he's working at it. He understands what he has to do. He understand the importance for him — And this is well beyond football. This is for his life. — to make sure he takes care of himself and he understands the importance of getting this issue under control and being able to live a healthy and long life. If he can, we'll evaluate that at the right time, but right now the focus is what more can we do to help Josh get to that place.”

Even in the absence of Gordon, the Patriots won yet another Super Bowl title this past season.
