With the New England Patriots currently standing at 2-4 to open the season, rumors have been swirling about the possibility of the team offloading some of its players prior to the upcoming trade deadline. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had the opportunity to address the rumor in a recent interview, and unsurprisingly, the 68-year-old decided to dodge the question entirely.

Belichick tried to dance around the question of whether or not the Patriots were going to be “sellers” at the deadline, but he was continually pressed during the interview. When he was told that this question had been “talk-radio fodder”, the veteran coach took this as an opportunity to exhibit some of his trademark wit (h/t Mike Reiss of ESPN):

“[Long pause] Yeah, well, I guess I'll just put it nicely and pass on the opportunity to get involved in talk radio,” Belichick said. “That's really a tough one for me to say no to. But I'm going to say no to talk radio questions. Thanks for asking, though. I appreciate the opportunity to get involved.”

In case you missed it, Belichick was being completely sarcastic here — and somewhat disrespectful, too. I guess that's what you get when you press him too hard.

Clearly, this is a sensitive topic for Belichick. This could indicate that the Patriots are indeed looking at the possibility of making a few moves prior to the November deadline. A straight up “no” would have been a good answer if New England weren't actually considering this, so perhaps there truly is much more to this than meets the eye.
