In his first nine games with the New England Patriots, star wide receiver Josh Gordon has played in an increasing part in the offensive game plan in the passing game.

This has been something that has caught the eye of head coach Bill Belichick, who has voiced that he believes that Gordon has “gotten better each week” with the team. (h/t Tyler Sullivan of 247 Sports)

“I think it’s gotten better each week, going all the way back to the first week,” said Bill Belichick of Gordon's play on Friday. … “Each team is different. They play their coverages or technique or our game plan varies a little bit from week-to-week, so there are always new things to work on, new things to develop.

“But, yeah, he’s done a good job of all that and the things that have been somewhat repetitive and come back over time, he’s obviously with multiple reps and the timing on those, of course has gotten better, from both him and Tom and the rest of the offense. But, there’s new stuff every week. Certainly, Miami’s a lot different than Minnesota or the Jets or Tennessee. I mean, it’s just each week it’s a new challenge.”

The 27-year-old has become a key part of the passing game for the Patriots through the last couple of months with 34 receptions for 605 receiving yards and two touchdowns since being acquired. This includes Gordon tallying more than 50 receiving yards six times along with a pair of 100 receiving performances.

What has been most telling is that he has built a strong connection with star quarterback Tom Brady has made a go-to option in the passing game, especially when the team is in need of a big play down the field. This has seen the two connect for both touchdowns on plays longer than 20 yards that included a 24-yard reception last week against the Minnesota Vikings that marked Brady's 579 total career touchdown in the regular season and playoffs that tied Peyton Manning for the all-time mark.

These comments from Belichick also indicate that Gordon will be a key to the puzzle moving forward this season that may see him become a huge factor in their push toward the Super Bowl.
