The New England Patriots took it to the Cleveland Browns with a massive 45-7 win. It was a dominant performance all-around. Bill Belichick has been proving this season he doesn't need Tom Brady to succeed. With how wide-open the playoff race is right now, New England has a great chance at becoming a legitimate playoff contender this season.

Mac Jones has come out of nowhere and is playing fantastically for the Patriots. He's playing a large part in the team's success this year. It's been impressive, as New England has been one of the most consistent franchises in recent weeks.

According to Judy Battista, the Patriots have quickly bounced back into contention as she claims, “What we couldn't have known then was how seamlessly Jones would slide into his new job, how rapidly the Patriots' identity would coalesce, how naturally the New England Patriots would rise from one season — one season in two decades — as an NFL afterthought.”

It's true. What Bill Belichick has been able to do is impressive. Most franchises would have crumbled after losing their franchise quarterback. New England on the other hand has maintained their competitiveness. Thanks to Bill Belichick's leadership and coaching prowess, it appears as though the Patriots aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

We'll see how the rest of the season plays out. New England plays in the AFC East where the Buffalo Bills currently lead the division. There is plenty of time left for the Patriots to make their move and re-take over the division after just one season of mediocrity.

Regardless, the Patriots' dominant win over the Browns should shake the rest of the AFC to its core. As long as Bill Belichick is in town, New England will always be a competitor.
