As the New England Patriots continue their training camp, they are hoping to continue to improve. Bill Belichick said everyone is making progress on the team, including receiver Jakobi Meyers.

While talking about training camp, Bill Belichick offered a high level of praise for Jakobi Meyers, who was undrafted. The Patriots' head coach has taken notice of Meyers in training camp.

“He’s a smart kid,” Belichick said. “He has position versatility and understands the offense. Like any rookie, any young player, there’s a lot of things he needs to work on technique-wise – recognition, route adjustments – just a lot of fine points. He basically knows what to do. But there are a lot of subtleties and nuances that all receivers need to pick up – certainly in our offense – and he’s doing that.”

After this year's draft, New England signed Meyers as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State. In college, Meyers played in only one season — 2018 — but had 92 receptions for 1,047 yards and four touchdowns last year.

Currently, Meyers is competing with Maurice Harris, Dontrelle Inman, and Braxton Berrios for a spot in the receiver corps. Meyers has gotten some reps with the first-teamers in training camp due to injuries to Julian Edelman and Demaryius Thomas.

In the draft, New England used a first-round pick on N'Keal Harry to strengthen its wide receiver position. Surrounding Tom Brady with more weapons has been a focus for the Pats this offseason.

Every season, New England seems to have an unsung hero who emerges on the roster. This season, that unsung hero might be the 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver, Jakobi Meyers.
