Everyone knows New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is a man of few words. So far, he’s used most of those words to sing praises to quarterback Cam Newton as their preparation for the 2020 season and post-Tom Brady era continues.

According to NBC Sports, the Patriots’ 68-year old mentor said that Newton, the 2015 NFL MVP, has done everything that’s been asked of him in the team’s training camp.

“He works had. He’s obviously a very talented player and looking forward to continue to work with him. We’ll just take it day-by-day, but he’s given us everything he’s had and we’ve tried to put the team in the best position we can competitively. We’ll see how that all comes out. I’m sure a lot of things will change as the season goes along. We are where we are for right now and just keep trying to get better every day.”

Newton, who spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Carolina Panthers, was signed by the Patriots on a one-year deal on July 8. The three-time Pro Bowl emerged as one of the league’s best quarterbacks during his time with the Panthers, but was hounded in his last two seasons. He was limited to just two games in the 2019 season after suffering a foot injury, while a shoulder injury sidelined and limited him for the rest of the 2018 season after leading Carolina to a 6-2 start.

The Patriots are entering uncharted territory after the departure of longtime quarterback Tom Brady. Despite the five-time champion’s departure, however, Belichick is hoping that he can get the most out of a healthy Newton.
