Bill Belichick’s likely salary revealed, ‘worth every penny’
There’s little debate about New England Patriots leader Bill Belichik as the greatest football coach of all time. So it’s definitely no surprise that he’s being paid like it.
In a recent report from WEEI’s Ryan Hannable, they brought up the topic of just how much the Patriots’ shot-caller makes in a year.
The answer is clearly north of eight figures.
Prior to Super Bowl LII, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported Belichick makes $12.5 million per year. It’s quite possible Belichick has received an extension since that report (his contract is one of the biggest mysteries in New England, as very few people actually know the details), and if that is the case, it’s likely he’s making more than $12.5 million per year now.
Given that the $12.5 million figure was from a few years back, our man Bill has definitely gone back to the back to cash a new check from Robert Kraft since then. It wouldn’t be surprising to say he’s in the $14-15 million range.
This topic came up because it was reported that San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan agreed to a new multi-year deal to become a top-5 earning coach in the NFL. Unlike in the NBA, the discussion of how much coaches make isn’t commonly disclosed to the public. But it’s widely believed that a handful of coaches earn in the double digit millions. Aside from Belichik and Shanahan, likely inclusions on this list are Pete Carroll, Jon Gruden, Sean McVay, Andy Reid and John Harbaugh.
It’s almost a guarantee though that the league’s winningest coach commands its greatest payday. The Patriots wouldn’t have it any other way.
After all, I doubt anyone would question if he deserves it.
