Brian Hoyer was released by the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday and could reunite with his former team. According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Hoyer is interested in a return to the New England Patriots.

As Howe alluded to, Hoyer was due a $2 million roster bonus from the Colts if he was still on the roster. Therefore, Indianapolis chose to release, making it evident that they plan on keeping Jacoby Brissett.

On the other hand, the Patriots are suddenly in need of some experience at quarterback. Of course, Tom Brady shockingly left New England after 20 seasons to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency.

For Hoyer, he's been a journeyman quarterback for the entirety of his career in the NFL. However, he's been with the Patriots twice in his career already and he could be an ideal signing for New England.

Following Brady's departure, Jarrett Stidham and Cody Kessler are the only quarterbacks that remain on New England's roster. While Hoyer wouldn't be the starter, he could be a valuable commodity behind Stidham as he enters his second season.

Prior to the 2019 season, the Patriots released Hoyer after he spent the 2018 season with the team. Initially, New England planned on re-signing him after dealing with injuries, but the Colts got to him first.

With the Colts, Hoyer completed 35 of his 65 attempts for 372 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. Even though he wouldn't be a viable starter, Hoyer could be on New England's radar due to his previous experience with their offense.
